Wearing A Dress By Chevelish To Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

I had the privilege of borrowing a fabulous high fashion dress by Chevelish to wear to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this season.

I was so excited to wear this incredible piece for two reasons. First, I wanted people to become aware of this fabulous new company and second I knew wearing this dress would definitely get me noticed. (I was right for both of my predictions.) The moment I walked towards the tents at Lincoln Center the paparazzi started taking my picture and asking who made my dress.

I loved wearing this dress because it encompassed several elements of my personal style which are glamour, edge and high fashion.

To accessorize my look I wore white Emilio Pucci sunglasses and black wedges. The final element was putting on fuchsia lipstick by Maybelline called Fifth Ave Fuchsia.

For those who are not yet familiar with the brand Chevelish creates high end clothing using the best fabrics and innovative designs in feminine, classy and elegant styles. Founded in 2010, the company is based in NYC with a design studio in Midtown. For more information call 212-355-2425.

7 Major Trends for Spring/Summer 2012

Carlos Miele SS12
They say fashion reflects the economic times we live in. If that’s true we have something to look forward to for Spring/Summer 2012. The 7 major trends on the runway for SS12 were sheer materials, bright colors, ruffles, saucy prints, polka dots, shiny gold fabrics and lots of structured shapes. It’s been a while since I’ve seen so much vibrancy and color on the runways at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

Could it be that our economy is finally beginning to turn around? Guess we’ll have to wait and see this coming Spring if the season’s fashion is a true reflection of the times.

Tiffany & Co. QR Code Cookie

My first day at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week I received a sweet surprise! As I was making my way to the tents I was stopped by a Tiffany & Co. model and offered a large blue cookie with a QR code on it. When I scanned the cookie’s QR code I got a special invitation to their Fashion’s Night Out event that night which featured a special performance by Leighton Meester with Check in the Dark. I love seeing fashion brands embrace social media and this year Tiffany & Co really took things to the next level with this QR code promotion.

Ironing Design With Rowenta At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

This season at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Rowenta (the official Garment Care sponsor) set up a fun iron on design station where guests had the opportunity to pick between two designs to iron on a tote bag. Fashion Designer and Rowenta Style Ambassador Althea Harper designed the custom iron-on templates. I picked the color fashion girl decal to put on my bag. The process was really fun and the iron worked perfectly! Towards the end I needed a little bit of assistance from the iron man (no pun intended) to help me transfer the design on perfectly.

Inside the Tents at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is now in its third season at Lincoln Center! Where has the time gone?  The roster of sponsors this season includes: DHL, American Express, Maybelline New York, TreSemme, W Hotels, Worldwide, Fibe One Bars, ideeli, FIJI Water and AriZona beverages. Noticeably MIA is the Kim Crawford wine bar which was my personal favorite last season.
Here is an exclusive sneak peak inside the tents at Lincoln Center.

Stylist Spotlight: Erica Coronado

Since 2005, Wardrobe Stylist Erica Coronado, has set out to bring fashion to another level. A Florida native, Erica, who studied Costume Design, Business Management & Fashion Merchandising, is living her dream styling for Broadway actors, fashion industry professionals, events, and personal clients.

I caught up with Erica for an exclusive interview about her views on fashion, style and much more! Check out what this stylist extrodinaire had to say below.

Which celebrity do you think has the best style?
The celebrity that I feel has the best style, would have to be Gwen Stefani. Not only has she been a fashion inspiration to me, but she’s got a super awesome clothing line (LAMB) and she’s never afraid to add a little flare to her outfits.

What three must have items do you think every woman should have in her closet?
The three must have items in a woman’s closet would have to be: A black blazer, a pair of wedges, and a little black dress. These essential three items can be alternated with other outfits through the year and can also be dressed up or down.

What's the best fashion advice you've ever gotten and who was it from?  The best helpful advice I can give to the majority of women would have to be, “How to get rid of a deodorant mark on clothes”. This helpful piece of advice was actually from a former co-worker on the set of Broadway’s show Jersey Boys. To remove any type of deodorant mark from clothes, grab a sponge! Make sure it’s a natural sponge, not a cleaning sponge. This type of sponge absorbs the white deodorant mark and won’t harm your clothes!

Which items should a women splurge on and which ones should she save on?
First a Woman should make sure to invest a little money into a great pair of black heels for any occasion, and a neutral colored clutch for a night out on the town. The best thing about these items is that Black heels never go out of style, and a clutch looks more stylish than carrying an oversized bag. A few things to save money on would have to be scarfs and accessories. If you’re someone who enjoys accessorizing your look, the best thing to do is to save some money on the smaller items and splurge on items that can wear and tear.

Describe your style in one word. Edgy

Who is you favorite fashion designer?
My favorite fashion designer would have to be Alexander McQueen, not because he’s popular or highly recognized, but because I feel that he is such an incredibly innovative designer in our generation.

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go and what would you wear?
If I could go anywhere in the world I would want to go to Spain to trace back my ancestry tree and I’d wear a long patterned dress with a denim jacket and embellish the outfit with bangles and sandals.

What makes you feel glamorous?
The one thing that makes me feel glamour would have to be my handbag. Without my bag I feel almost naked. I feel that a purse is something that women carry around place to place and hold many valuable possessions and because of this I also feel it’s a reflection of each of our personalities.

What advice would you give to those who are aspiring to make it big in the fashion industry?
The best piece of advice I could give to anyone aspiring to make it in the fashion industry would have to be to make sure you are professional, dedication, attentive, persistence, and again professionalism. No one will take you seriously if you’re not presenting yourself as a professional individual.

What is your favorite online shopping destination?
My favorite online shopping destination would have to be a great company that I partner with in providing styling advice: www.SadeeSays.com It’s a great website to shop around for accessories, handbags, scarfs, and much more!

Where do you get your inspiration from?
I actually get my inspiration from other traveling to other cities. When I travel I often key into the surroundings, colors, culture, and styles of the people around me. It’s inspiring when I see others in their own element.

What trends do you love right now?
Currently I’m really digging the turban trend. I love that it adds that extra edge to anyone’s outfit. Not to mention this trend is taking inspiration from other cultural influences, which is what I love.
