ARTISTRY 5:01 Party with Miss America 2012

Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler and I at the ARTISTRY 5:01 Party
The ARTISTRY 5:01 Party was one of the first events I went to this year. It took place on Thursday January 19th at Bar Basque inside the Eventi Hotel. The party was in celebration of ARTISTRY’s newest skin care technology and included a special guest appearance by the newly crowned Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler. Guests were treated to hors d'oeuvres, specialty cocktails, beauty treatments, makeovers and more.

I first spotted the makeup stations where several ARTISTRY makeup artists were on hand to beautify attending guests. I was lucky to have my makeup done by Luba Samrick a top ARTISTRY makeup artist who also did my make up at the last ARTISTRY event which took place during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. I still remember how incredible she made me look and of course this time was no exception. Luba used ARTISTRY’s new Fresh Radiance Cheek and Eye Quad, Blue Lagoon Eye Pencil and a hint of the Tropical Coral Lip Gloss Duo Compact.

After my makeover I felt like a beauty queen so it was only befitting that I  mingle with the real beauty queen of the event Miss America 2012 Laura Kaeppeler. We chatted for a bit about her recent win and her busy but exciting upcoming schedule. She was of course stunning in person and very down to earth.

Next, I had the opportunity to meet a few of ARTISTRY’s scientists who explained to me their newest developments as well as their new intensive skin care anti-wrinkle firming serum which is launching in March. It was interesting to learn that pioneers in the field of retinoid research in aging skin applications from the University of Michigan spent more than 10 years working to better understand retinol and mitigate side effects. ARTISTRY scientist then tested dozens of compounds to discover the perfect blend of natural extracts for optimal retinol benefits without irritation. More than 1,400 tests have been done to ensure ideal results. ARTISTRY scientists have also conducted comprehensive clinical studies and shown anti-wrinkle firming serum to have an overwhelming positive response.

I was briefed on a few benefits on the new ARTISTRY anti-wrinkle firming serum which included:
  • Proven to boost collagen activity by 300% overnight
  • Firm and more youthful skin in just 4 weeks without irritation
  • Clinically tested to help renew skin’s youthful firmness and resilience.
  • Unique, multi-dimensional formula features Next Generation Retinol, peptides, Vitamin C, and sooth extracts to restore and renew.

One of the many highlights of the event was trying on a crown and sash inspired by the special guest, Miss America 2012. I had a blast being the unofficial “Miss ARTISTRY 2012!"

After my mini photo shoot session I was pampered with a calming hand paraffin treatment and a much needed hand massage.

I had a fabulous time at the ARTISTRY 5:01 Party and honestly almost went to sleep with my make up on because I didn’t want to wash away the beautiful ARTISTRY makeup. (I did finally take it off because I don’t sleep in makeup but it was definitely a bittersweet moment to wash it away.)

Interview with Actress Amy Halldin

I've had a chance to meet some really special people along the way in my career. Back in 2007 I met the lovely Amy Halldin when we were both selected as HUGO BOSS promotional models. Amy is one of those special people who's truly a triple threat between her acting, modeling and singing she's really done it all. Personally, I've always wanted to try acting but never had the opportunity to really pursue it.

I'm fascinated by actors and recently had a chance to interview the super talented Amy and get an insider's perspective into the industry.

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hey! Ok, well I was born and raised in central Massachusetts and grew up a "theater nerd" so to speak. I was obsessed with movie musicals and performing for my family members and teddy bears. I remember for my 8th birthday we had an "Ariel" come to me and my sisters birthday party and I made her sit and watch me perform "Poor Unfortunate Souls". Now as an actress I work random side jobs sort of similar to that, so I can only imagine how unamused she was.

2. How did you get involved in acting?
Well I grew up doing community theater and plays in high school and it wasn't until I took a class trip to NYC to see my first Broadway show that I realized I could actually do this for a living. It was that day I decided to become an actress.

3. I see from your online acting resume that you’ve done a lot of theater work, Film/TV as well as commercial. Which one has been your favorite to work on?
It's interesting, I never saw myself doing film and TV work when I first started acting. I think it's because my first love was the stage and that is where most of my training was, and believe me, I LOVE theatre, but I have really been enjoying learning all about the art of film acting and what goes into auditioning for commercials. And to be honest, the money in commercials is mind boggling. So, I guess to answer your question stage was my first love so to speak, and I will always love it, but I am in a new relationship with film and TV, and it's new and exciting and I am really enjoying that as well.

4. What kind of roles do you prefer?
I like playing all sorts of roles, but I mostly like to play woman who have sass and gumption and balls. I like playing strong women. Probably because I am one.

5. Are you working on any current projects?
Yes, I have my hand in a few things at the moment. I just started filming my first feature film called "Delusions of Guinevere". It's a dark comedy and I am having an absolute blast!

HUGO by HUGO BOSS F/W 2012 Fashion Show

The HUGO by HUGO BOSS F/W 2012 fashion show took place at the “Old Masters Museum”, the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin, Germany last Thursday.

The collection featured fabulously spliced patterns, luxury material, bright colored frocks as well as classic HUGO darker colors like black and grey. Super model Karlie Kloss opened the show with a black leather wrap shirt and white pants. Celebrities like Jared Leto, Julianne Moore, Pixie Geldof and Georgia May Jagger watched as beautiful models presented one fabulous look after another.

I remember being at the show in Berlin last year thinking how incredible the collection was but now HUGO designers Eyan Allen and Bart de Backer have really outdone themselves for the F/W 2012 season.

International Luxury: Alice SS12 Fresh Pearl Collection

Yesterday I came across an international luxury jewelry brand called Alice on Twitter. Can you say fashion fate? I’m absolutely in love with their new SS12 Fresh Pearl Collection. Since they’re UK based I can’t imagine Kate Middleton not wearing their pieces as they’re definitely royalty worthy. Their new collection is filled with dainty pearl earrings and necklaces. As I sit here looking out my window at the snow I imagine myself sailing on a boat somewhere warm wearing pieces from their fresh pearl collection which would be paired with a summer dress and floppy hat. A girl can dream right?

ARTISTRY Creme LuXury Eye Review

I have been searching high and low for a good eye cream.  After trying the new ARTISTRY Creme LuXury Eye I’m officially hooked. I was first introduced to ARTISTRY at the ARTISTRY Beauty Lounge during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. They were nice enough to send me a few products which included this amazing eye cream. I’m only 25 but taking care of my skin for the future is very important to me. What I love most about this eye cream is that it targets signs of aging that impact both the upper and lower eye area, delivering a total 360˚ transformation around the eye.

Fashion Designer Zaida Adriana Goveo Balmaseda Rising To The Top At Amsterdam Fashion Week

Do you know Zaida Adriana Goveo Balmaseda? If you haven’t heard of her yet than you will soon. I first met the lovely Zaida as a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.  She was in the fashion design program while I was in the business school. We ended up taking an elective class together and I’m thrilled that I had a chance to meet her.

Now Zaida is an upcoming eco fashion designer who is delving into the world of sustainable fashion. She’s one of the finalists for The Green Fashion Competition at Amsterdam Fashion Week and will present a few items of her collection there next week!
With her innovative use of fiber and deeply rooted respect for traditional crafts, Goveo Balmaseda has a holistic approach to design. Her company reflects its values regarding sustainability by making responsible choices from material sourcing through production, product transit and also engagement with the community.

Nina Dobrev: Style Star

Nina Dobrev is one of my favorite actresses and style stars! I’m a huge fan of her work on the Vampire Diaries as well as her fabulous fashion sense. She looks so put together and chic in everything that she wears. Her style reminds me very much of my own and I love that she wears so many dresses! My favorite dresses that she’s worn so far are the red Donna Karan, one shoulder blue dress by Dalia Macphee, cobalt blue BCBG, sparkly Georges Chakra Couture and a black lace dress by Monique Lhuillier which she paired perfectly with pink pumps.
Which look is your favorite?

Alina Vs. Angelina: Who Wore It Better?

7 Best Dressed Stars At The 2012 Golden Globes

1. Angelina Jolie stole the spotlight in her off white Versace gown with just the right amount of red accent on top. She paired the look with a perfectly matching red lipstick and bag. I’m also a huge fan of the slit in the front which just seals the va va voom factor for her.

2. Rooney Mara, Hollywood’s It girl at the moment and the star of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo looked very in character in her strategically cut Nina Ricci gown.

3. Nicole Richie made a stunning entrance in her Julien Macdonald gown and bag by House of Harlow 1960. There’s something so old Hollywood about this look yet she made it look so modern and chic.

4. Dianna Agron boldy wore this over the top red laser cut swan dress by Giles Deacon paired with Fred Leighton jewels. Normally, matching a red dress to a red carpet just makes you look like you’re part of the carpet but this dress really made her stand out

5. Hollywood darling Emma Stone rocked a Lanvin gown which she paired with a detailed eagle statement belt. The belt gave the look an unconventional and somewhat edgy vibe.

6. Charlize Theron looked like a Greek goddess in her nude Dior gown with a perfect slit in the front that showed off her Givenchy sandals.

7. Jessica Alba went for a glittery strapless gown by Gucci which she paired with Bulgari jewels. The look is simple yet elegant with just the right amount of sparkle.

Reporting From New York Fashion Week Again!

A portion of my press badge collection

It was only a year ago that I decided to branch off on my own and start this blog. After spending years contributing to other magazines/fashion sites I thought it was about time to see if I could do it on my own. The seal of approval came when I was confirmed to be the official member of the press for New York Fashion Week this past September. I've attended New York Fashion Week since 2007 but this time it felt so good to represent my own site.

I'm thrilled to report that I will once again be representing this blog at the tents this season. Stay tuned to catch exclusive content on the hottest shows and trends right here on TheStyleSocialite.com!

Aside from blogging I will also be excessively tweeting, posting on Facebook, uploading runway videos to YouTube and using Instagram. Be sure to follow all four of my social channels!

My Guest Appearance on All on the Line With Joe Zee

My guest appearance on All on the Line with Joe Zee recently aired on the Sundance Channel. As I write about this experience I still can’t believe that I was chosen to be on the show. I’ve been a huge fan of Joe Zee ever since watching him on The City. I remember dreaming about a chance to work with him and be one of the guests on the show. Little did I know that a few years later it would all come true…

Let me tell you, my life in fashion has been very interesting, perhaps even movie worthy if someone decided to make a film about it. A few months after launching this blog I received an email from a producer in California saying how much his staff loves my blog which by itself was completely amazing until I read the rest of the email… The email was asking me to guest star on Season 2 of All on the Line with Joe Zee the Creative Director of Elle magazine! I remember sitting in a café that day with my good friend Shoshana and telling her the story in complete shock and excitement.

I promptly called the producer to confirm that I was interested in the opportunity. My role on the show was to be part of a Bloomingdale’s shopper focus group that would critique a selected designer’s collection. The producer confirmed my filming date as the beginning of August.

The weekend before I was suppose to film I made sure to hunt down the perfect “I’m filming with fashion legend Joe Zee outfit.” So what does an outfit like this entail? I had a vision in my head of a bright coral dress, chunky jewelry and black wedges. Back in 2009 I was asked to appear on the Tyra Banks show and I remember my contract advising my wardrobe to be bright as this would look better on camera. I finally found the perfect bright coral dress and knew it was the one. Jewelry and shoes came next and finally a black belt to cinch the waist.

The morning I was supposed to film at the Elle offices I remember feeling completely ready and excited for whatever curveball I might encounter during filming. Little did I know that I was about to face something I wasn’t at all prepared for or expecting but I’ll get to that a bit later...

When I got to the Elle offices I was escorted to a conference room with 3 other lovely ladies who were also in fashion. We had a little bit of time before filming so we all introduced ourselves. I had the pleasure of meeting Jessica La-Rotta founder of the StylEast groupErin Flynn founder of RealityChicBlog.com and Kristine Banasik designer of B A N A S I K Couture.

Before we knew it Joe Zee came in to meet us with as much enthusiasm and charisma as you see on TV. I remember Joe saying how much he liked my name after I introduced myself. I know my name isn’t that common here in the States so I hope he remembers me in the future if we ever have an opportunity to work together again… After the meeting with Joe we were taken to a room with two racks of clothing from the designer we were assigned to give our opinion on. I remember being the first one to eagerly go into the room as I was excited and ready to do my job.

To my surprise the label on the clothes was from Aysha Saeed, a “designer” whom I had the unfortunate experience of briefly working with. Now I won’t go into the details of my experience working with her as that would go against my moral standards. I will say that once I saw her name as the designer I was supposed to critique I was faced with two options. I could either A. Just critique her collection (which was my role) or B. critique her collection and also add an extra dose of drama by revealing the details of my experience working with her.

It’s a bit cliché to say but when I began my career in fashion I set a goal for myself that I would be a good person and treat people with respect (even if they didn't deserve it) so I ultimately decided against revealing the details of my experience working with her. A friend of mine once told me a quote that “in life you always see a person twice so you should always be kind to them the first time you meet."

In all honesty, the things I said about her clothes were without bias and I would have said the same exact things even if I didn't know her. Our job was to give our honest opinion of her collection and give her advice of how she could better it to appeal to a fashion savvy Bloomingdale's customer.

Aysha was watching our critiques from the other room. Instead of taking in the advice that our focus group was giving her she used the opportunity to lash out against most of it and also personally attack a few of the girls.

If you’re thinking about the Devil Wears Prada when you’re reading this keep in mind that Miranda Priestly had a sense of method to her madness with a track record of success...
Finally it was my turn to give my opinion on this dress that looked like a crazy combination of Walmart meets a knock off version of Diane Von Furstenberg. The first thing that came to my head was “it kind of looks like Diane Von Furstenberg but on acid.” Joe then asked if we would pay maybe $40 bucks for the dress to which I responded that I would only pay $15. Of course to retaliate Aysha responded to my answer by saying that “$15 is too much for me.” In all honestly she was right… $15 is way too much for me to spend on that monstrosity she calls a dress. You couldn’t PAY me to wear such an unflattering piece of clothing.

Don’t think I only had negative things to say about her pieces, I did say a few nice things about a structured jacket she designed.
Towards the end we were asked what she could do to make her collection more appealing to a Bloomingdale's customer. My advice was to infuse her designs with brighter colors and add in age appropriate structure. It was amusing to see that she took my advice and designed her final looks with bright colors and structure.

Overall, I couldn’t have been more pleased with how the final cut of the show came out. Joe Zee is truly a fashion power house and as I mentioned before it was a dream come true to work with him.

Here is the clip of my appearance on All on the Line Season 2 Episode 4 with Joe Zee!

Gypsy Chic Inspired Outfit

Gypsy Chic Inspired Outfit

Styling is one of my favorite things to do. It's always exciting to find interesting pieces and put them together for one cohesive look. I start by finding one central piece and base everything around it. In this case the first thing that I found was the long Chloe skirt. There's something so free about it that it inspired me to create a modern day "Gypsy Outfit". The next thing I picked out was the black leather tube top. The way I would style the outfit is by pulling the skirt a little over the mid section so only a little bit of skin is showing in the middle. (You want just enough skin to show but not too much.)

Next, I found the black leather Alexander McQueen booties with skull zippers. Finally the finishing touch to the outfit was the black jeweled turban which in my opinion completed the look perfectly. What do you guys think?

My New Year's Dress

Happy New Year everyone!  I can’t believe it’s already 2012. Last year was a huge year for me career wise and I’m so thankful for what I’ve achieved so far in fashion.

Of course each year I aim to out to do myself so this year I’ll be working on even bigger goals and resolutions. I look forward to bringing each to fruition and sharing my accomplishments with you on this blog.

"May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to make some art -- write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself."
