Aéropostale invited me to preview
their newest collection for Fall 2013 at their showroom in New York. Aéro is known for its trendy all American apparel and accessories geared towards the younger market.
I was so excited for the opportunity to visit their showroom. Growing up they've always been the staple 'cool' brand that was worn by my preppy school peers. Now as an adult in my 20's I still appreciate the brand's trendy laid back style for a low key weekend.
While
previewing their new Fall 2013 collection I also had a chance to meet their newly appointed
EVP, Emilia Fabricant. Emilia and I chatted
about the brand’s hip, new direction, key pieces and looks, as well as seasonal
trends.
Tell me about the new
direction of Aéropostale?
The new direction of Aéropostale is about dressing the teenager
from head to toe in the lifestyle. We’re really looking at how they live, where
they live and what they do. We’re trying to address all of their needs from
head to toe with their shoes, outerwear and fashion sense. The initial part of the collection really focuses on the blues aspect. Color has really been such a strong trend for the past two
year. It's really about the different washes of jet denim for jeans and shorts
and the destructive nature, the patching. All the different ways of
representing denim and the hues paired back with the simple white tops with
lace and texture with pops of bright color. We’re focusing on the new blues.
I spy a fun ombre shirt in front of me! Is ombre a huge trend for Aéropostale this season?
Ombre is definitely a trend for both tops and in bottoms. Dip-dye, ombre and tie-dye is out there still but it’s really evolved into the ombre aspect of it.

Can you tell me about
the other strong trends in the collection?
What we're seeing and what we think is very important is the whole leather part of fabrication. Where it’s a leather
jacket or the mixing of it within apparel. Piecing leather in jeans, the color blocking
with the leather as well in leggings. That’s a very big trend for us. Also
quilting leather and motto inspiration from the classic motorcycle jacket. It can be edgy but it can still be very feminine. It's always paired back with a feminine top because it's the mixing aspect of hard and soft that's very on trend.
