Helios & Luna SS12 Preview

I had the great opportunity of being invited to preview the new Helios & Luna Spring/Summer 2012 collection at their 5th avenue showroom in New York. The line can be found in numerous boutiques as well as the upscale department store giant Neiman Marcus. The brand has been around for almost 80 years catering to the modern day woman.

I caught up with Patricia Clyne the designer behind the collection for a brief Q & A to get a better feel for what the new Spring/Summer 2012 line is all about.

Tell me a little bit about your inspiration for the collection?

Patricia: I wanted to work on color and have the customer be comfortable with color. Each group has a complimentary color so they can be worn together as well as separately. I’m very attracted by fabric. Fabric is almost a big inspiration and new fabric. Specifically trimming and working with the fabric to make it unique so there's always a lot of detail on the fabric. In terms of silhouette just the way we dress. There’s modern blouse in every delivery so there are things that each of us as women wear just in a new way.

What kind of woman do you see wearing your new collection?

Patricia: It’s a lifestyle. She doesn’t necessary have to work. There are things in this collection for the working woman but I would not call this a working woman collection.

Personally as a young professional I definitely see myself wearing their new collection to a meeting or work function. The clothes were very sophisticated yet trendy and fun. I love the bright color palette that was used like shades of pink, orange, canary yellow and blue. My favorite piece was the black and white dress with belt.
