Jad Ghandour SS12: Lions, Tigers and Safari Fashion

Jad Ghandour delivered an unexpected yet befitting touch to his Spring/Summer 2012 fashion week show in the form of a live baby tiger and lion. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the exotic animals on each side of the makeshift runway as models showed off the new collection which was of course safari themed. In all my 5 years of attending Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week this was definitely a first! Although themed as a safari collection some of the gold pieces like the women’s cropped jacket and pants look followed by the men’s speedo reminded me of something a futuristic Egyptian colony would wear.

The clothes were definitely made for a select group of bold and fearless individuals who aren’t afraid to take a risk when it comes to fashion. As a risk taker myself (when it comes to fashion at least) I thought his collection was a breath of fresh originality with just the right amount of attitude. My favorite piece was the purple form fitting dress with the shiny material enveloping the neck and part of the bodice. Overall I thought his collection was like a rare gem in the treasure chest of fashion week shows that can sometimes look exactly the same.
