Concept Korea Fall 2012 Presentation: Asian Art In The Form Of Fashion

The Concept Korea Fall/Winter 2012 Presentation showcased a variety of styles from Korea's most talented designers like Doho (by DO HO), Lie San Bong (by Lie Sang Bong), RESURRECTION (by Juyoung), Son Jung Wan (by Son Jung Wan), and Steve J & Yoni (by Steve Jung and Yoni Pai).

The moment I entered the Concept Korea presentation I felt as though I was walking into an Asian museum of art but in this case the art was in the form of fashion. Each piece was perfectly crafted with strong details that made you want to stand and stare for a few moments just to really appreciate their beauty.

The overall theme for this season's presentation was "Ink Wash Painting."
Ink wash painting is an East Asian type of brush painting. Once a stroke is painted while ink wash painting, it cannot be changed or erased. Each of these 5 Korean designers infused the spirit of this art form into their F/W 2012 collections.

Doho Fall/Winter 2012

The artistic design combined with rhythmical silhouettes together with details of handcrafted textures and variations of tone-on-tone suggest the queen’s style. By expressing the antique and noble feeling of an old-world wardrobe, Doho’s unique variation is completed through the interpretation of a traditional antique style from a new perspective. DO HO has collected antique furniture and old-fashion jars during her travels around the world that have surrounded her life style and now are the base of her F/W 2012 collection.

Lie Sang Bong Fall/Winter 2012
Lie Sang Bong’s F/W 2012 collection was inspired by “Dol Dam,” which are tradiational Korean stone walls built by stacking pieces of stone in different sizes and shapes. The collection presents a modern reinvention of the versatility and beauty of “Dol Dam”- created by humans and transformed by nature. The architectural structures combined with organic shapes and lines were translated into an interesting mix of fabrics and details, blending the harmonious combination of surfaces, spaces and lines—resulting in the F/W 2012 Lie Sang Bong collection.

RESURRECTION Fall/Winter 2012

This season Resurrection suggests ‘Transformational Military Look’, emphasizing practical tailoring. Naturally falling silhouettes with volume and drop shoulders give an accent to the look. Partial patch-work with ultra light-weight padding in both the coats and jackets give a heating effect and aesthetic uniqueness to the pieces. Overall the color palette consists of toned down shades of khaki, brown, green zand blue.

SONG JUNG WAN Fall/Winter 2012

The theme of SON JUNG WAN F/W collection is contemporary artist Marc Quinn’s winter garden. Inspired by fadeless flowers that grow in the frozen garden and vibrant colors of flowers in the snow was enough to influence Son Jung Wan’s collection. Interpreted to the “oriental winter garden,” the mood is romantic and feminine and burst with creativity-giving the collection an overall feel of this Oriental fantasy.

Steve J & Yoni P Fall/Winter 2012

The future of the intergalactic gallivanting is what creates the Steve J & Yoni P F/W collection. Times are changing and the days of stargazing from afar are over. For in the modern world, exploration is about the breadth of imagination and not about how well you get on at “space school.” Skipping across constellations, Steve J & Yoni P have tapped into their imaginations in search of functional futurism. Forget bulky spacesuits and the extraterrestrial. Think bright knits, silken slinky dresses and quilted leathers complete with star-studded embellishments and rocket ship insignias.
