Fashion Week Inspired Outfit

Fashion Week Inspired Outfit

There are exactly 45 days till Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York... but who's counting? As I've mentioned before I love putting together my looks a few months in advance. Lately I've been inspired by vibrant colors mixed with solid black for a fun but edgy look.

When I find something that I like I always center everything else around that piece. In this case the first thing I found was the Alexander McQueen jacket.
The dress was my next selection. I loved the mixture of vibrant coral and blue in this piece. When you put the jacket over the dress it will cover the majority of it leaving only a hint of blue pattern on top and bright coral fabric on the bottom.

My next selection for this outfit were the Prada sunnies. There is something about the structure of both the jacket and sunnies that mesh so well together.
The next befitting addition to the outfit were the Fogal tights matched with Giuseppe Zannotti booties.

Finally the completing element was the blue and gold Jennifer Elizabeth ring which matches the hint of blue on top of the dress.
In all my outfits I like to bring the different elements of the look full circle in color, structure and shape.

Interning Advice For Fashion Students

(Dressed in WWD uniform while on a break during my fashion week internship in 2008 at Bryant Park)
It's been a while since I've graduated the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Now working full-time I find it very rewarding that I get a chance to give advice to interns that I meet along the way. Interning is not really something that's taught in college. Let me tell you I've been through it all as an intern and I must say that each task whether monotonous or not has taught me a lesson. During college I made sure that my time was properly occupied with as much learning as possible. This meant of course lots of classes (usually 21 credits a semester), interning and working part-time. Aside from school, interning provided me with great working experience, valuable contacts and one fabulous resume. I wanted to share a few tips that I've learned along the way and have helped me while interning in college. Here are 10 interning tips that I hope will be as helpful to you as they were to me.

1. Dress the part. This really applies to all job interviews but when going on an internship interview you must always dress professionally.

2. Bring a notebook and take notes. Each task that you're assigned should be written down. Make sure to ask questions if you don't understand something!

3. Don't take anything personally. It's a job and you're not there to make friends but rather business connections so be professional.

4.  Put in 100%. Interning can be a very valuable experience. It's a taste of the "real world" and you should absorb as much of it as you can.

5. Build your resume. Make sure you sit down with someone that has resume writing experience to help you properly convey what you've done during your internship.

6. Send a thank you note. After each internship you go on you MUST send a thank you note! It shows that you are serious about the internship and it's also another opportunity to tell the interviewer that you're the right person for the job.

7. Network. During your internship it's crucial to build your roster of contacts and network as much as you can. My advice is to make a Linkedin account as soon as you start your internship career. (After each internship it's always good to have someone you worked with write you a recommendation on Linkedin.)

8. Build your brand through blogging. If you're passionate about fashion prove it! Blogging is a great way to build your credibility and get your name out there. It's also a good way to differentiate yourself from the "competition".

9. Stay in touch with your past bosses/co-interns. If you established a good relationship with the people you've worked with it's always good to add them on Linkedin. You never know who might be a valuable contact to you when you're looking for a job after college. As they say "it's all who you know in life".

10. Intern as much as you can! I've been lucky to intern for some pretty big companies and magazines like Juicy Couture, Members Only, OK! Magazine and Women's Wear Daily to name a few. I made sure that each semester during my 3.5 years of college was occupied with a great internship. Make sure to visit the internal career site at your college for internships postings. If you don't find anything on there Craigslist is always good or StyleCareers.com

Below are a few candid pictures of me back in 2008 when I was a Fashion Week intern for Women's Wear Daily. The internship was definitely one of my most memorable and rewarding opportunities as it gave me the chance to experience Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. The rest as you can see is history and also a work in progress as my fashion career is still growing!

HUGO BOSS Celebrity Shopping Experience with Chloe Sevigny

Today I attended the HUGO BOSS celebrity shopping experience with the lovely Chloë Sevigny at the HUGO BOSS store in New York's Meatpacking District.

Anyone who checked into their selected stores on their Foursquare page between November 28 and December 6, 2011 had a chance to win a flight to New York, hotel accommodation in the city, and a shopping budget to use while shopping with Chloë. The lucky winner was named Adele. (Pictured above)

Back in January I had the privilege of being a HUGO BOSS reporter at the HUGO by HUGO BOSS fashion in Berlin. Today was an extra special experience for me since I had a chance to see some of my friends from HUGO BOSS that I had met last year in Germany. It was truly a memorable and meaningful moment to see them again as it brought back so many good memories of my amazing trip to Berlin this past January.

Another highlight of the event was meeting the uber fabulous fashion blogger Bryan Boy who is the editor of his highly popular blog Bryan Boy. We chatted for a little bit and I was completely in love with his sequin black blazer which was of course made by HUGO BOSS. Très Chic!

My Fashion Week Wishlist

With Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week just around the corner in February I'm starting to create ideas in my head of what I'm going to wear this season. My personal style can be very eccentric sometimes. I think I'm a mix of classic chic, vintage glamour with an undertone of dark edginess. This season I'm completely obsessed with faux fur coats, red lipstick, spikes, big shoulder pads, fascinators, over-the-knee boots, feathers, high slits, floppy hats and over-sized sunglasses. I'm the type of person that will wear an elegant dress with a pair of spiked heels.

What I love most about Fashion Week is that I get to express every facet of my character through fashion which I currently don't get to do so much on a daily basis. In my perfect world (which I’m currently working on making happen) I would love to wake up and put on a fabulously over-the-top outfit and work on creating something amazing in fashion. A girl can dream right? Lucky for me my dreams started to come true when I was first introduced to the fashion world back in 2006. Since then I've had quite an interesting life doing things that I once could only have imagined. Jetting off to Germany for Berlin Fashion Week is just one example.

You can find more interesting tid bits about my life in fashion in my mini fashion bio in about me. In the meantime check out what I picked out for my Fashion Week wishlist!

Top 8 Sequin Gold New Year's Eve Dresses

When I think of the perfect New Year's Eve outfit a sequin gold dress comes to mind. Last year I was on the hunt for a sequin gold dress but since it was so last minute I ended up finding a white sequin dress instead. To be honest it wasn't the same. This year I found my New Year's Eve dress way in advance back in November. It's vibrant golden off the shoulder dress with sequins that sparkle like there's no tomorrow. It looks like number 6 with the gold sequins of number 3.
Check out these 8 fabulous gold sequin dresses that I personally picked out for all you girls out there that are still on the hunt for the perfect New Year's Eve dress.

My Holiday Dress

This past week I attended a work holiday party and naturally I wanted to dress up for the occasion. I couldn't decide between wearing something velvet or sparkly. As you can see the sparkly sequin dress won since my velvet dress was still in the dry-cleaners. Velvet and sequins are the first things that come to mind when I think of holiday outfit trends. There's something so festive about both sequins and velvet during the holiday season.

As you can see I paired my black sequin dress with sheer stockings, belt and wedge boots. Of course it's not a celebration without my favorite drink of choice, champagne! How did you dress up this Holiday season?

My Double-Hang Wardrobe Closet From Target

One of my biggest vices is buying an outfit every time I need to go to an event or party. Throughout the years I've accumulated many pretty outfits with decreasing closet space to store them all. I finally decided that forcibly jamming my clothes into my tiny closet space was just not going to cut it anymore so I went on a day long search to find more storage space. Initially I thought a garment rack with a cover would be ideal until I spotted the Double-Hang Wardrobe closet at Target. Assembly of this mock closet was very easy and literally took 10 minutes. I was excited to finally spread my dresses out and hang them on the top portion of this closet. The bottom I reserved for my dressy suit tops and shirts. On the left hand side there was even shelve space that I ended up using for my big bags, pants and winter scarves. This mock closet conveniently comes with a three way zipper to keep the clothes dust free. If you're in need of more closet space I highly recommend purchasing this Double-Hang Wardrobe closet.
