New York Fashion Week Diary Day 1: Malan Breton Spring 2016 Fashion Show + Visit To Caravan Stylist Studio

Day one of New York Fashion Week was a little hectic, but so exciting! It was probably one of the most anticipated fashion weeks in New York as it no longer was going to be held at Lincoln Center, but in various new venues around the city.

I was incredibly excited to catch up with old fashion friends who I mostly see during the fashion season.

Of course, I was also equally thrilled to have a chance to dress up! Being the queen of last minute planning, I managed to pick out my 5 looks for the week in just a few hours before my first fashion show of the day.

Luckily being so last minute usually works in my favor as I managed to pull everything off in record time!

Here’s a look at my wardrobe for New York Fashion Week. From Left: THEIA Spring 2014 sequin cocktail dress, THEIA Spring 2014 blush cocktail dress, Cynthia Rowley print scuba dress, THEIA Spring 2015 silver/gold dress, Cynthia Rowley Holiday 2015 dress.

It was a hard decision to pick out my first day look, but I ultimately went with the Cynthia Rowley Holiday 2015 dress as the prints reminded me of something Malan Breton would show, and his was my first show of the day. I always want to make sure my look goes along with theme of the evening, and this dress ended up fitting in so well with my whole day one itinerary for fashion week.

Walking into Malan’s show was quite a surreal experience. I always say my life could be a movie, and it definitely felt like it at that moment when right in front of me walked in Frankie Grande and Randy Jackson!

Side note: How cute is Frankie’s rainbow tattoo??

Malan Breton’s Spring 2016 fashion show was held at the historic Gotham Hall. Originally constructed in 1922-24 as the Greenwich Savings Bank, the building was modeling against an ancient Roman prototype. I was especially impressed with the magnificent ceiling, which boasted a massive chandelier and ornate architecture.

Malan’s fashion show started with a beautiful movie presentation that literally set the stage for his “Reflections of Sun Moon Lake” Spring 2016 collection.

Malan Breton is a New York based womenswear, menswear, bridal, accessories brand founded in 2005 by Malan Breton. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Breton has been designing since the age of 11 and is known for his signature detailing, and fabrics. Malan is noticed as one of the top three hundred of all luxury brands in the world .

One of my favorite looks was this stunning tropical pink pagoda silk gown with lace and Swarovski appliqués.

Another favorite moment from Malan's show was discovering super cool androgynous model Rain Dove. Here she is modeling the black onyx water reflection sargent gown. (Sorry for the blurry i-Phone photo!)

Legendary model Maye Musk wore the silk and platinum floral tuxedo gown. She looked like the reigning Queen of fashion week as she walked down the runway. Maye started modeling at 15 years old in Johannesburg. At 42 in Toronto with Elite. At 50 in NYC with Wilhelmina then Ford. Now at 67, she is based in NYC and LA and working with agencies worldwide.

Next came the super dapper Men of Hakka modeling Malan’s menswear. One of my favorite looks was the white and blue suit with a hoodie.

The most unforgettable moment was when Malan walked down the runway during his finale. I mouthed "congratulations" to him and he looked at me right at that moment and said "thank you". I really couldn’t believe that he took those precious seconds of his finale to say thank you as he walked by. Seriously the sweetest, most talented designer I've ever met. Congratulations again on your incredible new collection. It's such an honor to know you!

After the show, I had a chance to catch up for a bit with my friend and Designer Alice Yim. She was wearing a look from her lovely namesake collection.

It just started to rain really hard in the city, but my friend Michelle and I were determined to make it to Caravan’s beauty lounge nearby at the Gregory Hotel. Caravan was hosting a 4 day NYFW beauty retreat with services like hair, makeup and nail art for fashion week attendees. Each day Caravan also held a designer presentation in partnership with Save the Garment Center.

The first designer brand was Kahri from NYC designer KahriAnne Kerr, who previewed her new original art-printed collection of dresses, shirts, fashion dolls, pillows and bags. It was such a pleasure to meet KahriAnne, and I was so incredibly impressed with her unique designs!

I couldn’t resist to do a mini-photo shoot with my flower print Cynthia Rowley dress. It’s such a fun, feminine piece and photographed so well.

Following the Caravan beauty lounge, Michelle and I dashed through the pouring rain to Irina Shabayeva’s fashion event. I’m still quite impressed my hair wasn’t a complete frizz ball when we finally go there! How cute was this butterfly background?! Total fashion butterfly moment!

I was so happy to run into Andrew Werner, my favorite Celebrity Photographer and friend about town. Andrew looked dapper as ever in his suit and blue Fleur'd pin.

As I always say, the best, most epic nights always end with wine. Cheers to an unforgettable first day back at NYFW!
